About Course

Palestinian embroidery is a symbol of Palestinian identity and an important part of the life of Palestinian women. It is a component of Palestinian folklore that has been inherited by women and passed down to their daughters and grandchildren through generations.

Women in Palestine used embroidery primarily to decorate their traditional dresses (thobes), in addition to many household items such as tablecloths, cushions, purses, and more.

This art spread throughout most regions of Palestine. The embroidery patterns varied according to geographic areas, allowing people to identify not only the region a woman belonged to, but even the specific village.

In this course, we will explore the motifs of rural (fellahi) embroidery.
